Scott and I both bought wetsuits and have been swimming in the sheltered part of the bay of San Francisco. I saw some swimmers out there in the water the first week we were in town and I knew that I had to try it. It's kind of crazy and fun - not to mention a good workout. I wondered about the water quality but it seems they test the water a few times a week to make sure it's safe so we're literally - diving in!
I took the subway for the first time yesterday -which was actually pretty laid back compared to the crazy bus with foreigners and people falling all over the place. I am going to have to experiment for ways to avoid crowded buses on my way to work. Scott and I are both looking forward to getting commuter bikes so we can just bike to the subway or ferry or whatever we decide to do.

Challenged yet... content
As I write this I am sitting in a cafe in the "North Beach" district of San Francisco. The trolley car just drove by up the hill and I am having lunch. I left the house this a.m. determined to find a new locale for my daily wifi job hunt. I ended up walking for about 2 hours - up hills, down hills, through Chinatown, near the water, through the italian district and some random streets.
Across the street is an "Indian Cuisine pub" - hmmm... that's an interesting combination. Open till 1 am eh? I am sure Scott and I will end up there eventually. One of the neat things about S.F. is the combination of people, places, and things. The euro is strong to the dollar right now so there are Europeans everywhere. I hear at least 5 or 6 differnt languages everyday and I see shops and stores that I had thought were extinct (like a hat shop and luggage repair store).
We have eaten italian, greek, spanish, thai, mexican, and american cuisine - in the last week or two.
Though my AK friends and family will be happy to know that I had a fit of "I miss AK" on Saturday night. I suppouse its all a part of getting used to things here - there area always pluses and minuses to everything. I promise to post pics soon!!!! : )

Moved In
Yea, I know it's been a long time since I posted but trust me - it's been crazy lately! We picked up the keys to our new place on Friday, August 1st. Which, incidentally was Scott's first day at work so I drove from Alameda into the city and managed to get lost both on my way there and on my way back.
The movers dropped our stuff off on Monday - and boy was that an experience! They didn't show up until 2 or 3 pm and then brought all our stuff into the apartment in a whirlwind. Then they tried to leave us once all the boxes were brought in - I made them stay and unpack all the boxes so we didn't have to deal with getting rid of the boxes and crazy amount of packing material. This resulted in them just opening the boxes and leaving our stuff strewn about the whole place. Not a good experience. At one point I realized that I was unpacking the kitchen boxes and Scott was unpacking the closet and an incredibly annoying moving guy was standing around drinking water and talking to us.We've been dealing with the aftermath ever since.
We spent 4 hours at Ikea on Tuesday and bought some bedroom furniture and a few pieces of furniture to make our kitchen work better. It's coming together and I think a week from now our apartment will be in good shape.
Ginger is scheduled to fly to San Francisco on August 15th. Thank god my parents hooked it up and have been watching her since June. I can't imagine what we would have done hauling her around on the road trip and during the moving process. She is dramatic as it is so it'll work out well to have her come home once everything is settled a bit. (Thank you mom & dad!)
No luck on the job front with me yet - I am applying and scouring the internet. It looks like the mechanical engineering firm in Oakland is going to give me an offer for the job I interviewed for a few weeks ago. Not quite sure what my response will be - there are so many positives and negatives that it's hard to know what to do. It's also crazy making decisions when your so unfamiliar with a lot of things - there is almost nothing to base your decsions on so it's just a matter of winging it.
We don't have internet at home yet so I am a coffee shop wifi junkie. It works (and it's free)!
Scott's birthday is on Saturday and mine is the following week so we're thinking of fun things we can do for our August birthdays. I know... assemble Ikea furniture!! yippeee : )
